New Construction Final Clean Checklist (Printable)
New Construction Final Clean Checklist (Printable)
A new construction final clean is the last white-glove pass before move-in or handoff. Done right, it follows one rule above all: work top to bottom and save the floors for last, so resettling dust never lands on a surface you've already finished.
Use the checklist below as your master list. It's organized in the exact order a professional crew works, from high dust knock-down through razor-scraping windows, cabinets inside-and-out, fixtures, and floors dead last. Print it, hand it to your crew, or use it to inspect the work before you sign off. Every item uses the `- [ ]` checkbox format so you can tick as you go.
Before You Start: The Golden Rules
- Top to bottom, always. Ceilings and fans first, floors last.
- Dry before wet. Vacuum and dust before you introduce moisture.
- Dust generates, then settles. Do the final clean after the last dust-producing trade leaves.
- HEPA or bust. Non-HEPA vacuums recirculate fine drywall and silica dust.
- Two passes minimum. North Texas construction dust resettles for days, plan a second sweep 24–48 hours before move-in.
Whole-Home / High Areas First
- Knock down dust from ceilings and corners
- Clean ceiling fans, blades, and light fixtures
- Wipe HVAC vents, returns, and registers

- Clean baseboards and trim throughout
- Wipe every door, both faces, plus hinges and handles

Windows, Glass, and Razor Work
New glass is almost always marked with paint specks, stucco splatter, adhesive, and stickers. This is skilled, careful work.

Kitchen
- Vacuum inside every cabinet and drawer, then wipe clean
- Wipe cabinet exteriors, doors, and handles
- Remove protective film from appliances
- Clean inside and outside of oven, microwave, and dishwasher
- Clean refrigerator interior and exterior
- Degrease and polish the range and vent hood
- Clean and sanitize countertops and backsplash
- Remove grout haze from new tile backsplash
- Clean and shine the sink and polish the faucet
- Wipe the toe-kick and under-cabinet lighting

Laundry and Utility
- Wipe inside and outside of cabinets
- Clean utility sink and faucet
- Wipe washer/dryer hookups and surrounding surfaces

Floors, Absolutely Last
- HEPA-vacuum all carpet thoroughly
- Sweep or vacuum all hard floors
- Remove grout haze from new tile
- Mop hard floors with the correct cleaner for the material
- Spot-clean any paint, caulk, or adhesive on floors
- Peel protective film from hardwood or LVP
Final Inspection Walk-Through
- Re-check windowsills and tracks for resettled dust
- Look across glass at an angle for missed specks
- Open every cabinet and drawer to confirm interiors are clean
- Check high corners and fan blades under raking light
- Confirm no film or haze remains on floors
- Take out all trash and debris
How Long This Takes
The full list is a lot of surface area. Here's a realistic guide for the final pass on a clean-behind build.
| Home size | Solo DIY | 2–3 person crew |
|---|---|---|
| Under 1,500 sq ft | 1–2 days | 4–6 hours |
| 1,500–2,500 sq ft | 2–3 days | 6–9 hours |
| 2,500–4,000 sq ft | 3–4+ days | 1–2 days |
Remember to plan a second pass 24–48 hours before move-in to catch dust that resettled after the first clean, this is normal for the fine clay and drywall dust common across the US-75 corridor.
